Sospese is positioned at the intersection of an artist’s book and a catalog, proposing a journey of gradual discovery of the works forming part of the exhibition of the same name, among nameless figures who become icons and custodians of a culture and society that can no longer be located in a single time.
The selection of portraits produced on glass plates in the early twentieth century is part of the heritage held by the Boscarino Archive, which preserves and promotes the production of photographers Giuseppe and Francesco Boscarino and Giuseppina Maranzani, active between 1899 and 2000 in Mazara del Vallo, in western Sicily.
Sospese is the result of the first surveys within an archive with an extraordinarily large corpus, where the traditional process of preservation, cataloguing and scientific study is joined by an equally powerful tool: poetry.
The publication is ecologically handcrafted, printed in Risograph® with rice bran oil-based inks on recycled and/or certified sustainable paper.
