Rome is a wild city. It is wild in terms of its history, urban layout, and the inclinations and dynamics that characterize its space. In this guide, you will not find advice on how to use the Roman wilderness, even if it is “conscious,” indicating those places or spaces to visit to enjoy it to the fullest; you will not find recommendations for must-see places to have an authentic experience of the wilderness. Instead, it recounts the ‘emergencies’ of the wilderness found throughout the city (in an urban space that is boundless, not one that can be enclosed and delimited on maps, geographical charts, or street maps).

The volume, edited by Francesco Careri, Serena Olcuire, and Dario Gentili, brings together some of the results of the research carried out by the Roma Tre University Research Unit as part of the Prin project ‘Sylva. Rethinking the ‘forest’. Towards a new alliance between the biological and the artificial, nature and society, wildness and humanity’, coordinated by Professor Claudio Cerreti.
