Cristina Musiani’s essay is inspired by Le Corbusier’s thinking on the cognitive aspects of the gaze and architecture as a visual device that relates to space, key themes in Guido Guidi’s photography. Through three interviews, which conclude the three chapters of the book, the research is supported by Guidi’s own voice, giving primary importance to his thinking. The starting point is the idea of an architectural frame associated with the idea of a window that expresses the cut made by the photographic shot, outlining the ways in which Guidi relates to monumental architecture, as well as to the ordinary and minor architecture of the suburbs. The text deals with the relationship between photographer and technological device, the automatism of the camera, the performative and relational aspect of photographic practice, error and the acceptance of the unexpected, the untranslatability and subtlety of meaning in photography, the association in sequences of images, the spatial fragment and the re-enactment of historical technologies. The book is illustrated with numerous colour photographs by Guidi.
