Conceived as an in-depth reflection on a practice developed over more than two decades, the book aims to convey the complexity of a body of work spanning photography, collage, found images, drawing and video, tracing its evolution from its earliest forms to the present day.
For Spranzi, photography and video are, first and foremost, ways of seeing and reimagining the world. Rather than prioritising technique, his focus centres on the elementary gestures of the photographic act — looking, enlarging, reducing, reproducing, reassembling — understood as actions through which the image is continually analysed, shifted and rewritten. These processes generate bodies of work in which fragments, objects and memories are staged, and in which the familiar is subtly destabilised by shifts and suspensions of meaning.
Developed in close dialogue with the artist and graphic designer Filippo Nostri, the editorial project unfolds along both chronological and thematic trajectories. The volume traces the evolution of Spranzi’s practice, highlighting a series of recurring motifs that constantly permeate and structure his work, such as the tension between scale and intimacy, the circulation and transformation of images, and the oscillation between reality and wonder.
The publication features original contributions by Cecilia Canziani, Ilaria Gianni, Estelle Hoy, Quinn Latimer and Simone Menegoi, whose essays offer historically grounded interpretations, critical perspectives and poetic digressions that complement and resonate with Spranzi’s work.
