May 2026
KAMERA SERIES | experimental films and printed matter. Talk with Giuliana Prucca (AVARIE) and Valentina Besegher Scotti (Labor Neunzehn), curators of the project, with the participation of Andrea Dojmi. Followed by a screening of a selection of films by Ion Grigorescu and Christine Gedeon.
KAMERA SERIES is a program of screenings and exhibitions dedicated to moving images, in dialogue with the artist’s book, organized by AVARIE and Labor Neunzehn. The series, hosted in a former GDR building in Berlin, serves as a space for reflection and critical exchange on the contemporary image.
Each event is accompanied by the KAMERA CAHIERS, limited-edition publications printed in letterpress, which expand a missing image or an unpublished film clip across 24 pages, weaving together texts, scripts, drawings, and notes, and featuring an object taken directly from the exhibition.
Among the artists invited from 2021 to 2025: Lina Selander | Pauline Julier | Ion Grigorescu | Maria Iorio and Raphaël Cuomo | Louise Crawford and Stéphan Guéneau | Andrea Dojmi | Sergej Vutuc | Luise Schröder | Peter Downsbrough | Helga Fanderl | Christine Gedeon.
At Leporello, Giuliana and Valentina will discuss their collaboration on the Kamera Series, tracing the project’s origins and the original idea of creating a dialogue between experimental film formats and independent publishing. The event will also offer insight into how their curatorial choices are structured and the series’ place within Berlin’s art scene.
The discussion will also address the challenge—but also the necessity—of continuing to promote and support independent and unconventional artistic practices as a political act, a form of resistance, and an example of sustainability in a time marked by the growing crisis in public funding for culture.
The conversation will feature Andrea Dojmi, a guest of the sixth edition of Kamera in 2022, with a screening of his latest Super 8 film and a selection of his works on paper.
Finally, special attention will be given to the Kamera 3 and Kamera 11 editions, dedicated respectively to Ion Grigorescu and Christine Gedeon, featuring screenings of excerpts from their experimental films. Publications by AVARIE, Kamera, and some of the participating artists, along with a selection of printed materials from the exhibitions, will be on display and available for purchase.
