Winter Light, by Riccardo Fregoso. Riccardo Fregoso in conversation with Francesco Pacifico. Published by Setanta Books
“We roam invisible worlds, waiting to fall into bodies. In that phase consciousness impregnates itself, standing by and watching itself. The boundaries of each one breathe, thickening and thinning, inhaled and exhaled by consciousness. We regroup spontaneously, feeling we can greet each other without the need to move legs and arms. Instead of extending fingers, it is the floating dust of awareness that lengthens on its own, massaging us in its impalpable, jovial accordion.” – extract from Francesco Pacifico’s text in the book.
After his acclaimed debut with Adriatico in 2022, Riccardo Fregoso is back with a new book. Once again, light takes center stage, but its nature has changed. No longer the golden, suspended light of Adriatic summer afternoons, it has become a winter light: thin, grazing, and delicate, shaping northern landscapes and quiet domestic interiors.
The images in this book are the result of a seven-year journey. Rather than embracing the rhetoric of “homecoming,” the work unfolds as a broader meditation on how photography transforms the ordinary into a field of questioning and wonder.
Designed by Martina Krosneva, the volume features a text by Francesco Pacifico (translated into English by Stephen Piccolo).
