“Photograph the waves to preserve the memory of their words”
“OH
GREAT
SEA!
YOU CREATE THAT
WHICH I SANG ABOUT AT THE BEGINNING
OH!, HORIZON OF EYES AND FLIGHTS
OF SEAGULLS AND BURNING SUNS!
PLACE OF PASSAGE OF THE CELESTIAL OF THE EVER FLAT
LUCKY ENCOUNTER OF STORMS
OF SALTY WAVES AND MOONS
FULL THAT FREE
FLOW AWAY.
AND I DIE
I”
These are the words the two photographers used to summarise their work: a series of photographs taken in faraway places. Barachini has been photographing the Tyrrhenian Sea in front of his home in Tuscany for years with large-format cameras, while Christiaens photographs the oceans he encounters during his voyages.
