A conversation with Roï Saade: Stories from North Africa and Middle East
How do we create a visual narrative using the book as a medium of artistic expression and what are the possibilities of publishing in the Middle East and North Africa? The talk will center around the creative practice of multidisciplinary artist Roï Saade, who will provide a look into the book-making process and present insightful case studies drawn from his work collaborating with other artists and his recent endeavor in Photobook publishing.
Roï Saade is an interdisciplinary artist interested in the intersectionality between graphic design, photography, and the arts. Among his curatorial works Bound Narratives: A Photobook Library was held in Museo Novecento, Florence in 2022. Roï is also the founder of Huwawa,an artist-led publishing house, envisioning the photobook as a living archive of ideas and conversations, and foreground anti-colonial and cultural counternarratives from the Middle East and North Africa.
