BilderAtlas and the books Flower Island, by Olimpia Taliani de Marchio and Bibi Tomasi -On the circle of your hands A story in images of the Italian feminist movement from the archive of the Milan Women’s Bookstore Collective. with Giorgia Basch
BilderAtlas is a space for visual practice engaged in curation, creative direction, publishing and cultural research from a feminist, interdisciplinary perspective. As a studio, gallery and publishing house, BilderAtlas operates as an open laboratory of images, pursuing the creation of new frameworks for curating and collecting visual media that escape static domains. BilderAtlas runs a multilayered cultural program related to women in the arts, Styles of radical will, named after Susan Sontag’s 1969 collection of essays. The program expands their investigations beyond regular presentations and activities, offering a series of discussions centered on women’s work in the creative fields as a practice of resistance, relation-making, and revolution. That of women is the winning revolution of our time. BilderAtlas argue that a shift in the realms of art, labor, and politics is possible because women have, and continue to, develop new paradigms and models to rethink identity, our social roles, and our relationships with one another. The program includes in-person activities, such as public and private gatherings, seminars, and installations, as well as online offerings – a podcast and a newsletter.
BilderAtlas Gallery represents artists working with lens-based media. With a special dedication to women artists, they collaborate with both established and overlooked figures in modern and contemporary art – artists that work internationally, as well as artists whose work of historical and cultural value continues to circulate through their estates and archives. Their exhibitions follow a curatorial methodology named resonant, developed by Giorgia Basch. The gallery is opening its space in Autumn 2025. More information soon.
