Toni Amengual, Flowers For Franco, 2021

The desire of photographing with a camera what can not be seen with the eyes is just one of the contradictions that lead me to publish this book. Between 2011 and 2014 I visited several times the “Valle de los Caídos”, with the intention of knowing, seeing and understanding what has been kept hidden from us, those born after transition and grown in democracy times. A democracy where specters and apparitions that we though long gone are nowadays reappearing. Flowers For Franco is the element that finishes the book trilogy started with PAIN and followed with DEVOTOS. This book, as its predecessors wants to appeal to who we are as a society. Forty-seven photographies succeed one another in a dark andcomplex story. In this case, the book design is a work of Tres Tipos Gráficos. Inspired in a missal, Flowers for Franco is a book of stories and prayers with the participation of the writer Llucia Ramis Laloux.
