During the 1960s, Genoa underwent a radical transformation, thanks to the reconstruction after the bombings of the Second World War and the euphoria linked to the economic boom. Lisetta Carmi, despite being Genoese, has the ability to portray her city with an outside look. And so in her photographs we find the breeze of the port, the alleys of the historic center, the traces of the war, the Staglieno cemetery, but also daily life with children playing in the street, adolescents who rock and roll, up to the famous photos of transvestites who then caused a scandal and today show us empathy between photographer and photographed subject. The book is at the same time evidence of Lisetta Carmi’s photographic research and a document on a Genoa that no longer exists and which is relived in black and white.
