In Halo, Rinko Kawauchi expands his research, begun with Ametsuchi (2013), on the landscape and spirituality in a book with black pages, very different from the images dominated by the soft colors for which she is known. The project combines photographs of the southern coastal region of Izumo, with images of Chinese New Year celebrations in Hubei – where, according to a millennial tradition, molten iron is thrown instead of fireworks – and with its continuing fascination with the murmuration of birds along the coast of Brighton, England. A book that through an existential research makes us think about the relationship we have with nature and its forces, but not only.
