Sanne van der Elzen takes a close look at the way we greet each other, which is perhaps the most universal gesture of all. What happens if we misinterpret our counterpart’s gestures? What role does intimacy play in possible misunderstandings? For instance, examining the Dutch formality of three kisses on the cheeks, one might begin to question the size of one’s comfort zone. Van den Elzen invites the viewer to follow his method of playful visual research, focusing on the intervals and interspaces of the complex choreography that is the art of gesture.
