Glendalis is a short story set in the blocks, fields and pre-centralised buildings of the Lower East Side, featuring a family occupying a council house on Stanton Street.
Their story is told by their youngest daughter named Glendalis.

Angela Cappetta grew up in a family system similar to her own, surrounded and embraced by an ever-present array of relatives and friends, in a context of crime, incarceration and death. The photographer, in fact, grew up in New Haven, one of the most racially and economically segregated cities in America.

‘Like me, she was the youngest and, just like me, she whispered in the voice of the last born, the messenger of a family. This work is influenced by my beginnings. I have always perceived it as an exploration of my childhood and the broader themes of family and community, of the relationships a person has and how they transform with us over time.’
