ExhibitionWorkshop Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th October,

Trashprinting – telling a place through waste, ziczic + Elena Campa

The goal of this workshop is to create a collective fanzine and open-air exhibition, after a first walk, where the future  artworks will be collected, to be then printed and set up. Trashprinting is an artisanal printing workshop with the triple target  of cleaning up a small part of a territory, learning to print with objects, lost or brutally thrown away,  and telling the story of a place through elements that are foreign to it and, perhaps only apparently, out of context. In this case the widening at the intersection of between Via del Pigneto and Via Marin Sanudo, a small square with delightful benches facing trash buckets, overflowing with garbage that here becomes a source of inspiration.

Garbage for some, great finds for others, found objects are chosen for the particularity with which they can describe the space and use of that place where they were abandoned. Many truly exceptional for their having been transformed by time and events, often even into ready-made two-dimensional silhouettes. Voluntarily thrown or accidentally dropped, they are traces of the ones who live those places and how that life happens. And with this handmade print they will remain imprinted on paper to create prints, posters, books, fanzines.

From Friday, October 11, during the workshop days and until Wednesday, October 16, a display of all the publications and new products produced by ziczic and Atelier Bizzarro will be at Leporello’s.

Trashprinting is an introduction to the DIY culture and the possibilities of printing without expensive and heavy printing presses, with the same results but at a very low cost even at home. We will print with a pasta machine that will take the place of a printing press, and introduce relief printing and monotype in a new way of interpreting graphic design and art printing processes, contaminating canonical techniques with homemade and nomadic experiments. An exploration of traces, material imprints and graphic composition to achieve extraordinary relief effects, making small print runs with few simple means.

ZicZic editions deals with self-published micro-publishing and has as its main line of research and publication the narration of places, landscapes and stories with unprecedented languages and handcrafted media.  “zic-zic” is a dialect way of saying, meaning ‘perfect, but by pure chance,’ a perfect motto for a workshop-based publishing practice that puts teamwork, the importance of encounter and a dash of randomness at the center of its research, which triggers relational processes and work from what is at hand. ziczic is a social promotion association curated by Lilia Angela Cavallo and Silvia Tarantini in July 2017 with the intent to promote the culture of books, graphic and illustrated art, with particular attention to the world of typography and artisanal printing methodologies, through the programming of events, exhibitions, workshops and laboratories. ziczic is a studio for the conception, printing and packaging of editorial artifacts, a place open to authors, enthusiasts and curiouses who want to try their hand at creating a printed product.

Elena Campa moves between illustration, graphics, design and artisanal printing techniques. She prefers a multidisciplinary, analog and experimental approach, taking inspiration from nature and the world of intaglio printing, and using idea sharing and workshop activity as her research method. She has developed experimental printing techniques based on the ethics of Do It Yourself, mixing digital graphics with the world of art graphics, with a view to raising awareness of environmental sustainability, from which he published “Homemade Printing” with Terre di Mezzo, which collects various workshops on printing on paper and fabric, for young and old. She collaborates with educational institutions and design schools, museums and foundations.
