Marco Barbon, ASMARA DREAM, 2009

Asmara, Eritrea’s capital, lives in a sort of triple dream. The dream of Italian colonialists who went there at the end of the 1800’s with the intention of building a second Rome.
The dream of independence from Ethiopia, which became a reality a few years ago. Lastly, the dream of those who wish to escape from this country at any cost, imagining a better future beyond the border. These three dreams, intertwined, have woven and continue to weave the future of this city, where traces of past and present fade under the unrelenting sun of the highlands.
