The idea of the book was born during the collection of the suggestions and stories that came together in Chapters, a 16 mm film shot in Cyprus in 2012, and developed as an exercise or rather as an experiment useful to deconstruct the film in some of its themes. Entering a new series of associations between image and subject, source and information, meaning and abstraction, this book is at the same time a document and a map of memory, which outlines the beginnings of a thought, an image, a place, of a time. Haris Epaminonda, through the use of videos, films, collages, photography, books and objects, reconstructs non-linear narratives, thanks to an extensive process of assembly and disassembly of materials which she gradually appropriates. The artist works with images from the past – faded travel photographs, pages from old nature magazines and ethnographic artifacts or extracts from forgotten television programs. Subsequently Epaminonda alters the images, cutting them and obtaining strips, to develop new works attributable entirely to the contemporary.
