The Screendump-project is an ongoing study and exploration of photographing in the virtual world. The first publication from this project (#1) by Suzan Geldhoff and Karin Krijgsman is about photography and virtual strolls through Google Street View. Following a number of texts and a collection of works, the outlines of a new genre occur in a new photography era: the age of virtual photography.

Screendump #1 contains work by: Michael Wolf, Mishka Henner, Hans Gremmen, Jon Rafman, Diederick Overbeke and Nicolas Mason. They find their ‘pictures’ on Google Street View, they roam day in day out. They know that they purposely maneuvering between the limits on one hand and on the other hand, the possibilities of this new technique. It produces images that can refer to the timeless, classic landscape and street photography, but also images that are just relentlessly expose the modern zeitgeist.
