A celebrated artist and experimenter animated by contagious enthusiasm and a tireless spirit of exploration, for many years Nino has accompanied the children and educators in their discovery of the photographic medium as a form of writing and a surprising mechanism for the creation of storytelling images. Under his guidance, children from 3 years of age have learned to make use of camera-less techniques such as oxidation, cellograms, polarigrams, lightgrams and photograms, discovering new ways of observing, telling about and transforming their world, with method and fantasy. The catalogue of the exhibition at MAXXI documents the photography workshop created by Nino Migliori at the MAST Nursery School from 2015 on. The collaboration between Nino and the children gave shape to a happily confused multiplicity of images that radiate an amazing joie de vivre: feet, hearts, leaves, dogs, trees, circles, pyramids, detached or assembled pieces, teddy bears, balls, gauze, spanners, gears, moving children. Through approximately 90 illustrations introduced by a Foreword by Italian psychanalyst Massimo Recalcati and accompanied by a critical essay and an interview with the artist, the exhibition aims to present this extraordinary experience. Readers will encounter the creative process conceived by Nino and the “tales of light” written by the children in the unfettered expression of their thoughts, emotions, and desires.
