For many, photos are still the ultimate proof of a sighting. Since its inception, photography has also been a widely used tool in science, which even enables us to perceive more than is visible with the naked eye. According to the well-known French astronomer Gérard de Vaucouleurs, photography was therefore crucial for the development of astronomy. The relationship between the photographic image and science is central to Anne Geene’s oeuvre.
In the successful collection Perceel 235. Encyclopedia of an allotment garden she previously meticulously researched plant and animal life on an allotment garden plot of 245 square meters. In New Facts she adds a layer to the visual registration of natural phenomena in the form of short descriptions, quotes and references to the work of Prof. Dr. Paul Bogaers, who is regarded as an authority in the field of the most diverse sciences. DutcAnne Geene also uses several photographic techniques and forms of presentation in this book. With her photos and accompanying explanations she shows that knowledge and perception influence each other and that this cross-pollination leads to surprising results. Even the largest dry stubble will not always be able to suppress the tendency to fold the corners of the mouth every now and then.
