Book presentation Tiempo Cero, by David Jiménez published by Infinito Books, with the collaboration of Biblioteques de Barcelona and display of David publications

Tiempo cero is a book that proposes a singular alliance between the sequence of stills from an audiovisual produced by David Jiménez and a chapter from the novel Lo demás es aire by Juan Gómez Bárcena, which here adopts a kind of versified form. Both can be read sequentially or freely within the microcosm that unfolds in the book.

In Tiempo cero, as in other projects by David Jiménez, the photographs have been arranged and assembled following the recipe of a secret alchemy, in a game of apparently random permutations that have something of ancestral wisdom and also of poetic brilliance. Although taken separately they seem unrelated, the subtle combination of these images illuminates secret echoes and symmetries, resonances between distant phenomena that only the photographer sees and that we cannot fail to see.

The work of the Cantabrian writer Juan Gómez Bárcena shares many of these obsessions, such as the reflection on time, the estrangement of reality or the establishment of poetic links between different periods. The selected fragment establishes a singular dialogue with photographic images, and from a geological point of view confronts the same human impossibility of conceiving the passage of time.

David Jiménez is an artist photographer born in Seville (Spain) in 1970 and currently based in Madrid. MA in Fine Art, for more than 30 years he has worked constantly on personal projects within the photographic medium.

His visual proposal brings us up close to the mystery encompassing the everyday, the invisible relationships that operate secretly in that which we find familiar. He explores the transformation of meaning through one’s gaze, understanding and capturing reality as a dreamlike state whose stability is merely apparent.

To date, he has published eight monographic books, among them Infinito (1st edition 2000, 2nd edition 2018), considered one of Spain’s most influential photobooks in recent decades and featured in reference works as Martin Parr/Gerry Badger´s The Photobook: A History vol III, or The History of European Photography of Václav Macek. He also published Versus in 2014, Aura in 2018 and Universos in 2019, which received the PHotoEspaña Award for the best book of the year.
