Anteo is a small tugboatman living in Petersburg, amidst sailors, smoke from chimneys and large ships to be escorted. In his few moments of rest, he dreams of setting sail for the vast ocean and visiting wonderful countries, but he does not want to escape his life of work, which he accepts with joy and courage – a life that only Iosif Brodsky’s delicate verses could make so luminous in its small everyday heroics.
