Sound, from indiscernibility in noise to musical articulation, is above all the privileged means of attentive listening to the rhythms and refrains of our time. The distinctions between popular, cultured and traditional music, the relationships between music, image and language, the interdependencies between artistic forms and the social structures on which they are based, all call into question ancient problems of determination, experience and myth, as well as the more peculiarly modern problems of the commodification, massification and then the spectacularization of the realm of music.
