AA. VV., L’INCREDIBILE RITROVAMENTO DI FOTOGRAFIE DELL’ONOREVOLE SIG. C., 2024

It is a well-established tradition that, after lunch, my workmates Andrew, Alessandro and Alessio and I go for a walk.

The “Orti” tour is one of the classic routes: from Via Benedetto Croce, we walk down towards Tre Fontane Park, cross the urban gardens and arrive at a tiled square that runs alongside Viale del Tintoretto. The square is used as a car park.

On that day in July 2022, the square was home to a small improvised rubbish dump: a disorderly pile of drawers, boxes, clothes and documents.

On the ground, easily visible among the rubbish, were a large number of slides and some old photographs.

‘The walk ends here today,“ I said to my friends, ‘we absolutely must analyse this material!”.

This is the story of those photographs rescued from oblivion and the surprising discovery of their author.

Two days later, the square was empty again, a simple, little-used car park.
