As the author says, Segno libero is not a book, but rather a screwdriver, a brush, a tool for learning to communicate. Published for the first time in 1981, it was the result of fifteen years of work, of discussions and endless notes on the analysis of messages and their decomposition, on the construction of the layout and on low-cost techniques to be able to reproduce them «at home ». Cult book adopted over the years in many communication and basic design courses, in this new edition it is enriched by a historical-critical preface and sixteen new color pages, in which Riccardo Falcinelli tells the life and work of Ferro Piludu and the Gruppo Artigiano Ricerche Visive: from work for large clients to political commitment, from the design method to collaboration with libertarian publishing (starting with elèuthera, right from the start).

Ferro Piludu (Milan 1930-Pescina 2011) has accompanied the editorial history of elèuthera since the beginning, taking care of the graphic image from 1986, the year of its foundation, to 2006.
