ITER—an acronym for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, as well as the Latin word for “path” or “journey”—explores humanity’s most ambitious attempt to replicate the Sun’s fusion processes on Earth. Rooted in an anthropological truth, our fundamental concepts of time, life, death, and myth are inextricably tied to the daily presence of our central star.
Approaching this monumental, high-stakes scientific endeavor as both myth and material, the work pushes photosensitive mediums to their technical limits. By conducting pseudo-scientific experiments based on astrophysical research, the artist recreates solar visual phenomena to capture an image of the otherwise unwatchable. The resulting work transcends simple photographic documentation, presenting a visual essay on the limits of vision itself. Here, the photograph ceases to be merely a record; it becomes an omen through which we may re-evaluate the economic, anthropological, and social shifts defining our collective future.
