Giancarlo Iliprandi (1925-2016), among the main protagonists of graphic design in Italy, not only worked with photographers and photography: his is ‘naturally’ a photographic gaze. This volume shows us the universe of this experimenter and designer through his eyes as a graphic designer, art director, and photographer. A relationship made of exchanges is established between graphic design and photographic culture that illuminates the scene of product design, fashion, and publishing since their founding season.
Giancarlo Iliprandi. L’occhio del grafico per la fotografia – a volume promoted by the Archivio del Moderno of the Università della Svizzera italiana with the collaboration of the Politecnico di Milano and the Giancarlo Iliprandi Association – collects a series of testimonies of the great designer that contribute to grasping his design aimed at graphics for visual communication, always in dialogue with photography, publishing and advertising. The volume is enriched by an extensive iconographic documentation, taken from Iliprandi’s professional archive, from which emerge, very topical, the signs of his putting on the page, where each project is an encounter, an incessant experimentation and an unrepeatable ‘point of view’.
