In the eighties, Giovanna Calvenzi, a newcomer in journalism, proposed to the magazine Il Fotografo to interview a series of authors who particularly appreciated. In scattered order: Bill Brandt, David Bailey, Chris Steele-Perkins, Arthur Tress, André Kértesz, William Klein. The magazine agreed and, even more incredible thing for her, even the photographers agreed to meet her, to talk to her and be photographed. For some years, Calvenzi continued to conduct interviews for Il Fotografo and other periodicals. Twenty-five years later, during a dinner, her dear friend Christian Caujolle asked her to see the photos taken during those interviews. The request was granted, and stimulated by research in his archive and a subsequent meeting with the publisher Claudio Corrivetti, the author decided to publish all the material in this volume.
