Homemade sauce is a complex summer ritual as it is composed of many smaller, more hidden, unknown and personal rituals that add up and coordinate for one collective purpose, that of generating once again the tomato puree that one will then go on to consume throughout the rest of the year. This is not an illustrated recipe for making homemade sauce, so much as a narrative of when this happens.
