Bringing forth the silent voices in the history of photography, this publication highlights key aspects of image production and representation by four ‘minute camera’ practitioners in India: Bharat Bhushan Mahajan (Delhi), Teekam Chand Pahari and Surendar Kumar Pahari (Jaipur); and Kinshan Chand Hemlani (Pushkar).

Commonly used in the subcontinent till the ‘90s, it supported the image-making aspirations of all classes gathering in the street. From the wandering abandon of hippies arriving in the late‘60s, to residents, pilgrims, and other itinerant tourists posing against historical and religious sites as painted backdrops,these works provoke considerations of photography’s popular norms.
