Miss Read at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin
Friday 22nd, 5 – 9 pm
Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th, 12 – 7 pm
After a few years we are back in Berlin, taking part to one of the fairs we have most enjoyed, Miss Read, this time held at HKW with a special focus on publishing from Eastern countries.
A nice opportunity for us to bring a selection focused on 2 Italian publishers: Grani edizioni and Oreri, and especially to launch the first book published by Leporello, The Divine Tourist, by Daniele Villa Zorn!
Daniele will be present at the fair to tell you about the book and his work, we look forward to seeing you!
Daniele has always made collages, using a simple, minimal technique that may recall that of the essential composition of haiku: he combines only two photographic fragments, two images, one of which is generally marked by a tear. Over the years, much of his production has turned to the use of images of nature, taken from travel and guidebooks, mainly produced between the 1950s and early 1970s, in which natural elements are portrayed in a way that is timeless, at once reassuring and hypnotic, enchanting and mysterious.
In The Divine Tourist the right distance between the evocative power of images and their pure aesthetic value is embodied by the figure of a special tourist who, with the gift of ubiquity, an enviable detachment and infinite possibilities of movement, wanders like a privileged alien in this fictional universe.
A curious tourist, enraptured by the dreamlike matter of this process of discovery and lost in its superficial, accumulative, exhausting nature, whose journey between multiple worlds is also connected to the act of “divination,” of interpreting signs and organizing with systematic method what seems disjointed.
