Colori by Giovanna Ranaldi
A volume of the Piccola Pinacoteca Portatile designed to play with color and deepen its many secrets. Through the words and images of great ancient and modern painters, Giovanna Ranaldi invites the reader to know the origins and names of colors, narrating the events, the discoveries, the works that made their history. An agile volume, which proposes to young budding artists exercises of observation, drawing, imagination, and gives the first rudiments to learn how to look at color, to think about it, to use it with different techniques and materials.
On Saturday January 23rd, on the occasion of the presentation, Giovanna Ranaldi will spend the afternoon with us, for anybody who would like to have a talk with her from Leporello’s couch and live on Instagram from 7 pm.
Giovanna Ranaldi was an engraver, printer, restorer, educator; she is currently an illustrator, author and something else that has yet to be defined.
For four years he conceived and conducted an art workshop for the homeless at a “Centro Diurno” in Rome. Islands, sea, coffee, cats, roses, books, bells and travel are her passions at the moment.
Her works and books have been awarded and exhibited in different contexts, including:
CJ Picture Book Award, Seoul; Honorable mention 3×3 Contest, New York; White Ravens, Internationale Jugendbibliothek Munich; Ilustrarte, Lisbon; International Illustration Exhibition, Sarmede;
Annual Illustrators Italian, Milan; Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edimburgh.
She has collaborated with museums and institutions: MART Rovereto, MAXXI Rome, National Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions Rome, Tribe of readers Rome, Foundation for the illustration exhibition for children “Stephan Zavrel” Sarmede (TV), Institut Français Center Saint Louis Rome, Libraries of Rome, Rome Lazio Filmcommission.
PIPPO means Piccola Pinacoteca Portatile (Small Portable Art Gallery).
The picture gallery is the place where the paintings are kept, as books are kept in the library. In this case it also means that the figures in these books are copied from famous works of art (you can search for real ones, perhaps at the museum or on the internet). Each PIPPO is a book that can be in the library, but it is also a set of pages that you can color, draw, cut out, glue together, remove and hang on the wall. So even your room can become a picture gallery, with paintings that no one else has, because you made them.
